Obituary for Dimitra Hajedemos (Mermingas)
Dimitra Hajedemos, age 87, loving wife, mother, and grandmother passed away on January 29, 2018 after a brief illness. She was married to her husband Kostas Hajedemos for 62 years. They shared a life of hard work and great devotion to their children and their beloved Greek Orthodox Church. Born in Proussos, Greece, she was the daughter to the late Stavros and Theodora Mermingas, Dimitra immigrated to the United States with her two young children to join her husband on October 5, 1963. She worked tirelessly in the garment industry as a seamstress. She also made the absolute best homemade phyllo for her famous spanakopita.
In addition to her husband, she is survived by her son Harry and his wife Jane of West Haven, and her daughter Betsy and her husband Kenneth Moore of Pepperell, MA. Her home has always been filled to the brim with photographs of her precious grandchildren, Cassandra and Deana Moore and Dana, Julia and Dean Hajedemos. She is also survived by her sister Angeliki Alambasini of Athens, Greece, and her sister-in-law and brother-in-law Nia and Perry Bologeorges of Jensen Beach, FL. She also has several nieces and nephews in both the US and Greece. Dimitra was predeceased by her brother Costas Mermingas and her sister Koula Lazouras.
Calling hours will be observed on Friday February 2, 2018 from 11:30am to 12:30pm at Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church, 4070 Park Avenue, Bridgeport. Funeral Services will be held on Friday at 12:30pm in the church with Fr. Georgios Livaditis Presbyter officiating followed by interment in Mountain Grove Cemetery, Bridgeport. The Commerce Hill Funeral Home, 4798 Main St. Bridgeport has been entrusted with the services. In lieu of flowers please consider a memorial donation to Melmark New England at 461 River Road, Andover, MA. 01810. It is a school for children with Autism where Deana Moore attended and thrived.
